Monaco’s motorsport roots date back to 1911 when Prince Albert I inaugurated the Rallye Monte-Carlo. Then, in 1929, a little car race around the streets of Monte Carlo became the Monaco Grand Prix, although it did not join the Formula One calendar until its inaugural season began in 1950. Yet women were driving motorsport in Monaco long before the Grand Prix circuit, winning the Coupe des Dames and Concours d’Elegance as early as the 1920s.
This unprecedented compilation of the last hundred years introduces readers to the names that made women motorsport racing formidable, from the first woman to take the start at the 24 Hours of Le Mans to the first to ever compete in Formula One. Iconic women race car drivers, like Michele Mouton, the first to win a major rally title or Susie Wolff, who heads the F1 Academy. From historic rallies to karting, veteran and next-gen female drivers are roaring past gender stereotypes.
100 Years of Women Driving Motorsport in Monaco explores the many roles women play in steering motorsport in Monaco. The book shines a spotlight on Diversity and Inclusion. In 2022, Formula One had a gender split of 69% male and 31% female and the mean pay gap showed male employees made 20.2% more on the average hourly rate than female employees.
The book is a Made-in-Monaco product by Monaco’s first 100% female owned publishing company. Proceeds from sales will support next-gen females in motorsport.
